Why do golf courses in Myrtle Beach Double Tee?

Monday, February 22nd, 2010

What does Double Tee mean? Why do golf courses in Myrtle Beach Double Tee? The term Double Tee is used when golf courses start groups off of both the 1st tee and 10th tee at the same time.

Why do courses Double Tee? Courses in the Myrtle Beach area Double Tee to help get more golfers on the course. If a course were to start every group off of the first hole, then the “Back Nine” of the golf course, would be empty for about 2-hours and 15-minutes each day leaving about 15 tee times open depending on the tee time increments at each course. With 15-tee times and the low end avg. cost of $50 per golfer that is an additional $3000.00 per day and on the high end at $200 per round it could be as much as $12,000 per day in lost / gain revenue. With most golfers wanting to play between 10am to 11am the double tee does not allow and most times are not open after 9:30 am depending on the golf course.

Frost Delays for Myrtle Beach Golfers

Monday, November 2nd, 2009

frost damage picture

The fall golf season in Myrtle Beach is here, with that comes the cooler weather. With the cooler weather, also comes those chilly mornings were the golf course could experience FROST. What is frost? Where does it come from? Why cant we play while frost is present? Hopefully I can answer some of these questions for you.

Frost is frozen due that has crystallized on the grass. Since grass blades are about 90% water, when a frost occurs, the blades of grass also freeze. Since all golfers like to hit off of carpet like fairways and putt on good greens, golf course turf is cut lower than the grass in your yard, walking on frost covered grass can cause SERIOUS damage to the golf course. In fact, you would not know how much damage it has done, because it typically takes 48-72 hours when the grass blades start turning brown and die. You are already done playing that course. One person takes approximately 60 paces on a green. Multiply that by 18 holes with an average of 200 rounds per day and the result is 216,000 footprints on greens in a day or 6,480,000 in a month or 77,760,000 footprints in a year.

Frost delays can last 10 minutes to over 2 hours. For more Myrtle Beach golf tweets and retweets follow me on twitter at www.twitter.com/mbgolfpro

Myrtle Beach Golf Course: Barefoot Resort Pete Dye Club

Friday, October 23rd, 2009
Barefoot Dye

What a crazy week for golf here in Myrtle Beach. We started out Monday and Tuesday with frost delays in the morning with cold windy afternoons and then,…. we hit 75 and sunny on Wednesday. In fact nice enough to go play one of the best golf courses on the grand strand. Im talking about the private club at Barefoot Resort-Dye Club. The Barefoot Dye Club, as with all Dye creations have plenty to test your shotmaking skills. The famous high mounds that are found on every Pete Dye course frame each hole along with his signature rail road ties. Pete Dye designs feature plenty of water, rough with centipede and zoysia grasses and waste bunkers guarding fairways and greens. Elevation changes leave alot of blind shots into greens, however, thats not an issue with Barefoot Resorts GPS  carts that give exact layouts and distances of each hole. With all Pete Dye designs you are going to get a challenge like no other and this top rated Myrtle Beach golf course does just that. Check out our Barefoot Dye Club golf page and add this course to your next Myrtle Beach Golf Package.

Myrtle Beach Golf Course Review: Rivers Edge Golf Club

Friday, October 2nd, 2009

RIVERS EDGE 027

We received a special invite to the grand reopening of Rivers Edge Golf Club for its 10th anniversary. The course had new Seashore Paspalum greens, which were not a disappointment. This Arnold Palmer signature course is located on the Shallotte River and has some of the best views for any Myrtle Beach golf course. Rivers Edge features six-holes with amazing views of the Shallotte River and Marshlands. Arnold Palmer designed the course to have the natural elevation changes and rolling mounds over looking the bluffs. The Clubhouse overlooks the Par 5 9th and Par 4 18th with the 9th hole green out in the marsh making golfers want to go for it into but very few make it over the wetlands.

Rivers Edge should now be on every golfers must play Myrtle Beach Golf List.

Burning Ridge Golf Club in Myrtle Beach is a year round Classic

Tuesday, September 8th, 2009

br_pic_01

I got a chance to play the 2006 South Carolina and Myrtle Beach Golf Course of the Year over these great Labor Day weekend – Burning Ridge. With amazing Myrtle Beach weather, this Par 72 is a challenge for all skill levels. After recent renovations, managed by the Classic Golf Group and designed by Gene Hamm, Burning Ridge features fast bermuda greens guarded by bunkers on nearly every hole. Water does not come into play due to not alot of water hazards on the course. The fairways are wide with rolling mounds and give chances for BIG DRIVES.

Burning Ridge not only rates very high with the Myrtle Beach locals, it also is one of the  “Top woman friendly golf course” along the Grand Strand. Measuring just over 5700 yards, a 114 slope with a 67.3 rating from the forward tees and over 6700 yards 128 slope and 72.8 from the championship tees. All of the golf carts at Burning Ridge feature Pro Link GPS and a great practice faculty make Burning Ridge a great country club. Condition was great and their members should be proud.

Email our golf department golf@condolux.net and add Burning Ridge to your Myrtle Beach golf package.
